With Overwatch’s release date now confirmed, some of the biggest names in esports are falling over themselves to sign the best-performing teams from the beta.
Cloud9 have become the latest organization to acquire a division for Blizzard’s new team-based shooter, picking up top North American side Googleme.
Googleme have been on a tear through the online competitions since the game returned from its hiatus last month, reaching the final of five tournaments in less than three weeks.
The players—Kyle “KyKy” Sounder, Greg “Grego” McAllen, Lane “Surefour” Roberts, Adam “Adam” Eckel, Derrick “reaver” Nowicki and Keven “deBett” deBettencourt—will continue to play in these online cups with their new sponsor.
According to a report from community news site Icy Veins, Team Liquid, Counter Logic Gaming, and Tempo Storm are also on the hunt for an Overwatch team to bring under their banner. Tempo Storm have already approached several teams beginning as October, but have been unable to strike a deal. European side IDDQD are considered to be one of the top targets for these organizations.
SK Gaming, Millenium, and Team EnVyUs are among the organizations that have already signed Overwatch teams as the scene continues to develop at a rapid pace.
Overwatch is currently in closed beta, with the game’s full release scheduled for May 24.
