Blizzard just added 464 Overwatch League expansion team skins to the test server

The expansion team skins are on the test server ahead of the 2019 season.

Eight new skins, one for each of the Overwatch League’s 2019 expansion teams, have been added to the game’s test server. Blizzard uploaded the home skins for each of the new teams in a PTR patch issued today. There are 29 heroes in Overwatch, which means 464 skins, home and away, have just been added to the game—the best of which are the 29 new skins for Hangzhou Spark, which clad Overwatch’s heroes in pink.

With the addition of the new Overwatch League expansion skins, there are now 580 Overwatch League looks in the game. Add the away-team skins, which are unlocked with a 100-token home-team purchase, and that’s a whopping 1,160 skins. The away skins are unlocked automatically when a home skin is purchased. On the PTR, players get one free unlock for the Overwatch League skins; they’ll be fully purchasable when they hit the live game.

As we’re sure you’ve noticed, many of the Overwatch League’s 2019 expansion teams are fond of the colors red and blue. A few of the team’s colors are a little too close—ahem, Washington Justice and Paris Eternal. But the good news is that teams are each designated a status, home or away, when playing in official matches. Home teams wear their main colors, while away teams use skins that are white with pops of color.

Blizzard hasn’t said when the new skins will be added to Overwatch’s live server, but it typically takes a few weeks for PTR patches to make it over into the main game. They’re expected to be added to Overwatch ahead of the 2019 season’s Feb. 14 start date, at least. The first match of the season is a re-do of the Overwatch League’s grand finals series between London Spitfire and Philadelphia Fusion. Though both teams have kept a core basis of their inaugural season rosters, each has made significant adjustments—and the game can go either way.

The full Overwatch League schedule was announced this week. Four matches will be held each night, Thursday through Sunday. The Overwatch League will test out its city-based structure with three road trips spread throughout the season, with matches scheduled in Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Dallas.
