The Atlanta Reign get to feel like kings tonight—the Reign has broken the New York Excelsior’s regular season winning streak with an incredible 3-1 victory.

NYXL haven’t lost a game in season two, aside from a stage one quarterfinal match to the Seoul Dynasty. In the regular season, they’ve won all twelve of their games prior to this match.

Winning against the New York Excelsior is enough of a victory for any team in the Overwatch League. The Excelsior are a storied team, having brought home two stage championships last season. The Atlanta Reign have a mixed record this season in their first as a team, but just last week, they were defeated by the Los Angeles Valiant, ending the Valiant’s season-long losing streak. Overwatch League predictions put the Atlanta Reign’s chances of winning this match at just 5.6%.

Atlanta defied the odds by playing aggressively and punishing a seemingly distracted Excelsior team. In a match yesterday, the New York Excelsior won against the Philadelphia Fusion, leading many armchair analysts to wonder if the preparation for that difficult match left them vulnerable to an increasingly successful Reign roster. After this loss from New York, the Vancouver Titans are now the only undefeated team in season two.

The Atlanta Reign and New York Excelsior face each other once again in stage two on May 4. The Atlanta Reign’s next match is against the Guangzhou Charge on April 21.
