How to get Grumpy Bulb Deviant in Once Human

There are multiple Deviants you can find and use while playing through Once Human. These are helpful creatures you can use in combat or keep at your base to gather resources. One of the more difficult Deviants to find is the Grumpy Bulb.

The Grumpy Bulb is a rare Deviant that only appears if you go out of your way for it, and there’s a low chance it could even appear for you. What makes the Deviant unique is how you find it, and if you don’t know the exact location to look for it in Once Human, tracking the Grumpy Bulb can be troublesome. If you find the Grumpy Bulb, it becomes an asset for you in combat when fighting hordes of enemies.

Where to find the Grumpy Bulb in Once Human

You get the Grumpy Bulb Deviant by harvesting a Deviated Onion, a special one from the others found in Once Human. Finding an onion out in the wild is possible, but you can grow and harvest them at your base. I find that it’s much easier to harvest onions regularly if you create multiple farming plots in your base and then fill them with onion seeds that you can harvest. It’s a difficult process compared to the Pyro Dino Deviant.

What makes it challenging to get the Grumpy Bulb is it doesn’t appear when you pull your first Deviated Onion. It’s a random chance if the Grumpy Bulb appears or not. This means you can pull dozens of Deviated Onions before the Grumpy Bulb appears for you in Once Human, and it can become a time-consuming activity if you’re trying to unlock this Deviant on your character. Outside of regularly farming for Deviated Onions at your base, I don’t believe there’s a good method for you to harvest this crop regularly.

If you need more onion seeds, speak with the vendor at Tall Grass Inn named Emma Porter. You can find her at the top of the hill, at the center of the settlement. She offers three onion seeds per week, which won’t do you much good if you want to try farming onions for a chance to get the Grumpy Bulb. You’ll need to rely on searching the tall grass in wild areas for a chance of onion seeds falling on the ground. You’ll also need the special fertilizer that boosts the chance for a plant to become Deviated, which is called the Mutation Boost, and the Improved Compound fertilizer. Many players will likely hope their attempts yield a Grumpy Bulb quickly as it can take a long time to find this Deviant. You can continue trying each time you plant and harvest an onion seed in Once Human. Eventually, it should provide a Grumpy Bulb encounter for you. When you get the Grumpy Bulb, you can use it in combat, throwing it at multiple enemies to perform a powerful AoE attack against them.
