Group play at the Overwatch Winter Premiere has concluded, and four teams are moving on to the finals. The finals will take place at PAX South starting Jan. 27. The finals will be single elimination best-of-five series. I will profile one team each day of the week leading up to the finals. The first team I will be looking at is the team that topped the group, Immortals.
Immortals
- Christopher “GrimReality” Schaefer DPS
- Brady “Agilities” Girardi DPS
- George “Hyped” Maganzini Flex
- David “nomy” Ramirez Tank
- Athen “Aythen” Zhu Support
- Stefano “Verbo” Disalvo Support
Immortals initially qualified for the Overwatch Winter Premiere by securing the final automatic qualification spot. In the first qualifier, Immortals made it through their group but fell to FaZe Clan in the quarterfinals. Immortals had the same result in the second qualifier, falling to Fnatic at the same stage. In the third qualifier, Immortals made it all the way to the semifinals, but fell to Luminosity and then lost to Team Liquid in the third place match. In the final qualifier, Immortals won the bracket by beating Kungarna, Luminosity, and Fnatic along the way. Before the first stage of round-robin play began, Immortals made a change to their roster, picking up Verbo and moving Zac “Chance” Palmer to a coaching position.
In the first round-robin, Immortals got off to a strong early start as they won their first four games. They won tight series against Luminosity and Liquid before completely destroying Citizen7. After the five day break, Immortals took on a 4-0 Renegades team, winning a tight series 2-0. Immortals then faced Kungarna and their win streak came to an end as Kungarna ran over Immortals, taking a clean 2-0 win. Immortals finished the first round-robin stage by winning their two final series against FaZe Clan and compLexity.
Immortals went into the second round-robin stage as the top team having lost only one series to Kungarna. On the first day, Immortals won a close series against the struggling Renegades, but lost to compLexity 1-2. Immortals then beat Kungarna to redeem the lost they suffered in the first round-robin, and wrapped up the second stage by beating both Liquid and Luminosity 2-1. In the second stage, Immortals never won a series 2-0, the opposing team was always able to get a map off of them. Despite close wins, Immortals were able to pull out the majority of them and finished with a 10-2 record across both stages of round-robin play.
Immortals play great as a team, with every member on the roster doing their part to help lead the team to victory. The team typically employs a triple tank comp with GrimReality playing a DPS hero. In this triple tank set-up, the team plays well to get picks from the Roadhog and nuke down the opposing teams players.Â
Key Player – Agilities
Agilities is a Flex player who mainly plays Roadhog and Genji. On Roadhog, Agilities is critical in hooking important targets and taking them out to open up a push for the team. On Genji, Agilities darts around the map getting to the backline and finding kills on healers and DPS. Over the course of the tournament, Agilities has earned 371 kills. Though he does play some Genji, 61% of his time is spent on the Roadhog. Agilities must link up well with GrimReality in order to destroy the backline and lead Immortals to victory.
Immortals come into the finals as the No. 1 team from both stages of round-robin play. They have looked dominant, and  are capable of beating any of the three other teams. Immortals, true to the organization’s name, look unkillable. If the team can bring the form that earned them a 10-2 record, they should be the favorites to win it all.
