Street Fighter V may not be at Evo Japan

Could the world's leading fighting game be missing Evo entirely?

One of the world’s premier fighting games, Street Fighter V, may not be included in the list of games headed to Evo Japan, which was recently announced and begins on Jan. 28, 2018.

Prominent members of the Evo Japan and Shoryuken staff said on Twitter that there is no guarantee at this time that SFV will be one of the titles at the event, due to licensing issues.

SFV has been a staple at Evo events since its release last year, and fans expect it to be at all future Evo events due to the game’s popularity.

To give the Japanese market a taste of the Evo experience before the event officially begins next year, Evo Japan is holding an event called sai. Many were hoping to see SFV there as the third mystery game—Tekken 7 and Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 are currently the only titles confirmed for the event.

With SFV being one of the most prominent fighting games in the world, its omission from Evo Japan may cause participant numbers to drop due to the loss of a large headline game.
