Kroenke-backed esports organization The Guard has removed Harrison “psalm” Chang from the active roster, multiple sources told Upcomer and journalist Max “Purest” Katz. The Guard will likely begin to field replacements for the player once each team returns to practice in the new year. Many teams have taken a short break over the festive period and will return to play in the North American VALORANT Champions Tour 2022 in January. Psalm was one of the first players to join the roster alongside Michael “neT” Bernet and Jacob “valyn” Batio. The team, which was first formed in November, finalized the roster with former Immortals player Jonah “JonahP” Pulice and former T1 player Ha “Sayaplayer” Jeong-woo. The Guard recently participated in the Frag VALORANT Major alongside a few other organizations. The tournament, which mostly consisted of mixed rosters, saw The Guard finish in the quarterfinals following a defeat to Zero MarksMen Black. The team was later defeated by eventual victors ex-Serenity Black. The Guard were one of the newest organizations to enter VALORANT, having only played at a few tournaments. The North American team is yet to compete in the VCT circuit. Despite the team being relatively new, they have managed to take down some notable teams in the region like SoaR and Resonate. The Guard are ranked as the 36th best team in North America, according to VLR.gg. However the team has yet to compete on the professional level since their first VCT event will begin in January. The team is backed by holding company Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, which is owned by American billionaire businessman Stan Kroenke. The team was revealed to the public following reports of the organization looking to enter VALORANT, as first reported by Upcomer. The Guard will temporarily field the following roster:
- neT
- Valyn
- JonahP
- Sayaplayer
- Matthew “mCe” Elmore (coach)
