Fortnite releases new Solo Cash Cups for January

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

The long-awaited tournament release on Jan. 9 gave Fortnite players three different Solo Cups. These competitions include the Solo Hype Nite, Solo Platform Cup, and Solo Cash Cup. Each tournament runs separately, and once again, regions hold their own events. That said, players can compete in multiple regions, as they are not region locked. The Solo Hype Nite begins on Jan. 10, while the final event, Solo Cash Cup, ends on Jan. 30. The prize pools resemble Cash Cup at the beginning of Chapter 2, Season 1. Europe and North America East have the largest prizes, and the Middle East, Asia, and Oceania have the smallest.

Solo Cash Cup schedule

The tournament schedule runs each week for the remainder of January. Each event lasts one day, and each will provide separate prizes. Solo Hype Nite provides “Hype Points” for prizes. The other two, meanwhile, have cash prizes associated with the top placements. The schedule is as follows:

  • Solo Hype Nite (Friday and Saturday): 1/10, 1/11, 1/17, 1/18, 1/24, 1/25
  • Solo Platform Cup (Wednesdays): 1/15, 1/22, 1/29
  • Solo Cash Cup (Thursdays): 1/16, 1/23, 1/30

Players have three hours to complete each tournament. Make sure to check the in-game “compete” tab to determine when each tournament starts for you. Times will vary based on your location and region.

Scoring system

There are two different scoring systems for the tournaments. Solo Hype Nite provides one format, while the Solo Platform Cup and Solo Cash Cup hold another. All tournaments will reward players with one point per elimination. The remaining points, then, will come from reaching placement thresholds. Here are the scoring formats:

To optimize performance, Fortnite players must understand the format and adjust their playstyle accordingly. The Hype Nite event provides five more points for placements than the Platform or Cash Cup.

Fortnite players react

While some players embraced the new tournaments, others were not impressed. The events were seen as a holdover instead of the next major series. That said, the competitions will give the Fortnite scene something to practice and grind towards.

Fortunately, the Fortnite season ends in early February. Many expect that Epic will announce a major tournament at that time.
