BIG defy the odds
G2 came into the final with a one-map advantage due to coming into the final from the upper bracket. BIG had an extremely long road to climb, as securing three maps seemed like an impossible task, especially after map one, Vertigo. G2’s first pick saw the French take Vertigo without much trouble with a 16-6 score. G2 simply outfragged their opponents on the first map, with AWP CSGO legend Kenny “kennyS” Schrub getting the best rating after the map. BIG’s own pick afterwards, Nuke, saw the team’s uprising. The team snagged Nuke with ease from G2, with a 16-5 scoreline. On the map, we saw an incredible performance from Johannes “tabseN” Wodarz, who got 27 frags in just 21 rounds. Dust2 didn’t go G2’s way either, as BIG carried over their momentum onto G2’s next pick as well. The whole BIG team was on fire, but Tizian “tiziaN” Feldbusch and Florian “syrsoN” Rische stood out with their fragging on Dust2. The German team made it all square at 2-2 after bagging Dust2 in convincing fashion, 16-6. It was then time for the decider map. It came to be BIG’s pick and it was Mirage. The final map was a spicy show for the audience as the half saw G2 accumulate quite the lead on their counter-terrorist side at 11-4. BIG, however, turned up the heat on their own counter-terrorist side as syrsoN became a one-man army, coming out with 41 frags at the end and helping BIG force overtime. After numerous close rounds, it was BIG that did the near-impossible in the end, closing out the map and series at 19-17. G2 had a huge 2-0 lead in the beginning, but it seemed like the French lost focus and gave too much room for a comeback. BIG go home with $54,000 and 400 EPT Points, while G2 receive $28,000 and 265 EPT Points at the DreamHack Masters Spring Europe finale.
