With the new 7-star Tera Raid Battle in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet focusing on a Flying-Type Decidueye, here are some of the best counters to catch this former starter. As the final evolution of the starter Rowlet from generation seven, Decidueye is still one of the strongest Pokémon around thanks to its great type combination. Plus, with its rarity as another older generation Pokémon coming into Scarlet and Violet through a Tera Raid Battle, getting it can be key.

How to get the Flying Decidueye Tera Raid Battle
To start, let’s go over how to get the battle in the first place. Like previous unique 7-star Tera Raid Battles, the Flying-Type Decidueye will only be available for a short time. There are two times that Decidueye will be the 7-star Tera Raid Battle: from Mar. 17-20 and Mar. 24-27, 2023. To find the 7-star Tera Raid Battles, look at the map and find the glowing versions of the regular Tera Raid Battles. When checking on it, you should see the seven stars and silhouette of Decidueye. For players who are playing during the correct time but can’t find the battle, make sure to be connected online.
Best counters to Flying Decidueye
When it comes to building a team or a Pokémon to counter Decidueye, one of the best options is something you get for beating the game in Violet.
Miraidon is a great counter
Out of all the moves that Decidueye can do, the two you have to worry about most are the Grass-Type moves and Flying-Type moves. Miraidon is one of the strongest ones thanks to high stats and great moves. As an Electric/Dragon type combo, Miraidon takes half damage from both Flying and Grass attacks. Plus, with its strong Electric-Type moves, it can do a lot of damage to Decidueye. Use Charge to boost that next attack, and you should be able to whittle Decidueye down.
Magnezone is another great Pokémon choice
When it comes to fighting a Flying-Type 7-star like Decidueye, Electric-Type moves will always be the best option. When you get a type combo like Magnezone, it helps thanks to its resistance to Grass and Flying-Type moves. The resistance to all of Decidueye’s moves, on top of moves like Electric Terrain and Zap Cannon, can lead to an easy fight with the raid boss. These two aren’t the only options — just know that you’ll face mostly strong Grass and Flying-Type moves and choose your Pokémon wisely.
