This is what happens when Riot developers decide to mod Smash Bros.

It seems that helping run and develop the most popular esport, League of Legends, can get a bit boring at times.

A few developers at Riot games wanted to play some Smash Bros., but with League champions instead. Knowing full well that Nintendo would never put League characters in Smash, Riot did it themselves.

There aren’t a ton of images showing off the mod, but the few that were posted are pretty blurry. But it’s enough to get hardcore League-Smash crossover fans damn excited. That’s the assassin Katarina in the first image, for non-League fans out there.

The team did it “just for fun,” according to a Riot developer on Reddit. The League characters weren’t just simple reskins of existing Smash characters, either. “Imagine Garen being similar to Ike but he has spin to win similar to metaknight tornado and Demacian Justice charges kinda like Ike’s neutral b but when released drops a giant sword from the sky,” the developer wrote.

The modification was probably done to Smash Bros. Brawl using an exploit that lets users add their own twist to the game. The most popular use of this exploit has been Project M, a more competition friendly version of Brawl. There are also other balance patches such as Brawl Plus, and Brawl Minus, which breaks every character until they’re all balanced.

Sadly, nobody outside of Riot will ever be able to pit Alistar against Link.
