With the absence of superstar ADC Martin “Rekkles” Larsson, who benched himself due to the change in meta, Fnatic have been looking at their mid laner Rasmus “Caps” Whinther to fill the void in the past few weeks— and today was no exception.

An early gank in the mid lane helped Caps to get a kill and take a commanding CS lead to give Fnatic an early advantage. Caps even got the mid tower in the opening six minutes.

Even with a large early gold deficit, Schalke kept finding picks across the map to keep themselves in the game. Fnatic were quick to trade for Schalke’s roams, however, picking up key objectives to keep their lead.

Schalke’s resilience was short lived, as they slowly fell apart the later the game went. Fnatic found a series of great picks across the map to take advantage of Schalke’s over-positioning, picking up clean fights to extend their already massive gold lead.

Twenty-five minutes into the game and with a Baron under their belt, Fnatic finally defeated Schalke in a one-sided affair to keep their chances of ending the season in first place alive.

A win for Schlake would have put both teams at an equal scoreline and see Schalke tie for third place with Fnatic going into tomorrow’s matches. Fnatic, on the other hand, proved to be the better team and are now within two wins of catching up to Misfits in first place.

Fnatic will be looking to keep their winning momentum when they go up against H2K in tomorrow’s game. Schalke, on the other hand, go up against another top team in the EU LCS next when they face off against G2 Esports.
