Introduction
Blizzard has just announced a new Hearthstone Expansion, coming in just a little bit over a month – Journey to Un’Goro. We’ve already suspected that earlier this month after the leak and we were almost sure that the Azeroth’s ancient crater will be the new Expansion’s theme.
In this post, I will gather everything we know about the new expansion – cards revealed so far, new mechanics, release date, pre-purchase info etc.
ungoro.com is the official site of the new expansion. You can find some extra lore and art there!
General Information
Name: Journey to Un’Goro
Number of cards:Â 135
Release date:Â Early April
New tribe:Â Elemental
New mechanics:Â Adapt, Quest
Pre-order:Â You can pre-order a bundle of 50 expansion packs for $49.99. If you do, you will be awarded with a special card back.
New Tribe & Mechanics
Journey to Un’Goro will add new tribe called “Elemental”. So far we know only one new Elemental card, however tons of cards from previous sets will be labeled as such too (including cards like Unbound Elemental, Magma Rager or the Elemental Lords – e.g. Ragnaros the Firelord or Al’Akir the Windlord). We don’t know how big role will this tribe have in the expansion, but we can suspect a lot of Elemental cards coming in.
The first new mechanic is Adapt. When you play a card with Battlecry: Adapt you get to pick one of the extra effects this card is going to have. You get to choose one of the 3 effects (just like Discover mechanic works right now), but there will be 10 effects in total and so far we’ve learned 6 of them:
 Â
 Â
Update: We’ve learned the other 4 possibilities. Those are:Â
- Volcanic Might – +1/+1
- Rocky Carapace – +3 Health
- Shrouding Mist – Stealth until your next turn
- Poison Spit – Destroy any minion damaged by this one (The Emperor Cobra/Pit Snake ability)
Another new mechanic is called Quest. Quest is a 1 mana Legendary spell that you always get in your starting hand. It requires you to do something in order to get a powerful reward. So while you start with basically one card less, after you finish the quest you will get rewarded with a very powerful card. So far, we know only one Quest card – Priest’s Quest to play 7 Deathrattle minions. Reward for the quest is an insane 8/8 Taunt that sets your health to 40 (changing your maximum health to 40 too, judging by how Alexstrasza works on the Ragnaros Hero from Majordomo Executus). You can see both the Quest card and the reward below.

Â
Remember that Amara, Warden of Hope is NOT a standalone card, you will not be able to put her into your deck (like for example The Storm Guardian from White Eyes) it’s the reward for the Awaken the Makers quest.
More card reveals will start on March 17th.

Extra Info/Clarifications
- Quests will always appear in your opening hand, but you can mulligan them away if you want to.
- Minions brought back by N’Zoth, the Corruptor count for the Priest Quest (because it says “summon” not “play”).
- Quests won’t come out from the random effects, e.g. you won’t be able to Discover them or get them with Babbling Book. However, they still count as spells for the sake of spell synergies (e.g. playing Quest makes your Arcane Giant cheaper by 1).
- The set is going to have 2 Legendaries per class – one Quest and one regular Legendary. Does it make the set much more expensive? Yes, but not by so much. There will only be 5 Neutral Legendaries, which makes the total Legendary count only higher by 2 when compared to Whispers of the Old Gods.
Closing
That’s all we know about the upcoming expansion so far. I will update this post every time we learn something new. Stay tuned!
