Monsanto’s Frozen Throne OTK Warrior Guide

OTK Warrior has been in the meta in one way or another throughout the history of Hearthstone. The Warrior card Charge has been the center of most of these OTK combos but with the recent nerf to the card, Arcane Giant and Raging Worgen decks with OTK combos aren’t quite possible. With the release of Knights of the Frozen Throne however, Sudden Genesis makes a different OTK combo possible with Leeroy Jenkins.

Monsanto used the deck to Rank 9 Legend in September and it is a decent card against

Combo: The combo requires you to buff your Leeroy with Don Han’cho and then play Leeroy with 2X Inner Rage and one Sudden Genesis to make 2 copies of Leeroy Jenkins with 15 attack. We run very few minions in the deck so getting Don Han’cho to trigger on Leeroy is not as hard as it might seem at first glance and the minions in the deck are quite cheap with the exception of Grommash and it’s unlikely they will clog your hand and prevent you from getting your buff off.

Card Choices

Inner Rage: Inner Rage allows you to buff your Leeroy Jenkins after you play Don Han’cho to buff it up to 15 attack with both copies of this card. It is one of your essential combo pieces that makes this deck work.

Blood To Ichor: Blood To Ichor is a good card to enable things like Execute, Acolyte of Pain and Wild Pyromancer combos.

Whirlwind: Whirlwind allows you to enable a lot of cards like Sleep with the Fishes, Battle Rage etc. It is also good against token / aggro decks when chained with other whirlwind effects to clear out boards efficiently.

Armorsmith: Armorsmith is one of the few ways to amp up your life total through various combos and simple trades. Warrior’s ability to go over 30 HP makes armor gain a lot more valuable than health gain in the class.

Battle Rage: Battle Rage is one of the strongest card draw tools in the deck and with some quick combos with Wild Pyromancer you can easily draw 2-3 cards each time you play Battle Rage. You ideally want to save the card for getting good value out of the card unless you desperately need specific removal or already happen to be close to your win condition and need the last few pieces to close out the game.

Commanding Shout: You want to combo this card with Wild Pyromancer and chain other spells to clear your opponent’s board. The Wild Pyromancer combos are much better against aggressive decks as they usually run minions with small health pools and flood the board instead of playing big threats.

Execute: Execute is a great tool to take out big threats and with so many ways to damage minions in the deck you should have no trouble activating the card and getting value out of it. You ideally want to be aware of what the big threats that your opponent plays in his deck. Having an idea of the current meta is always valuable when it comes to proper usage of the card.

Slam: Slam functions both as a removal tool as well as a card draw utility. Unless you have high priority threats that you need to deal with or low health minions that you need to finish off, you want to get the draw out of the card whenever you play it.

Sleep With the Fishes: Sleep with the Fishes is a great follow up to whirlwind effects to wipe out enemy boards. You can also combo with Wild Pyromancer and Commanding Shout for 4 damage AOE clears (or more, with more spells).

Shield Block: Shield Block is an armor gain and cycle tool packed into one. Its utility mostly lies in the card draw aspect of the card but the added life gain helps as well against aggressive decks to help you get to your combo pieces fast enough without losing too much health.

Blood Razor: Blood Razor is a great weapon against aggressive decks and it also works well with cards like Sleep With the Fishes, Execute and also allows Grommash Hellscream to activate for massive burst damage.

Sudden Genesis: Sudden Genesis is one of the combo pieces and is used to copy your Leeroy Jenkins to enable a 30 damage burst combo. We run this card instead of Faceless Manipulator to make Don Han’cho more consistent and Sudden Genesis can also duplicate multiple minions instead of being a single target card.

Grommash Hellscream: Grommash Hellscream serves as an alternate finisher in the deck as it can deal 10 burst damage with its enrage effect in place quite easily. With cards like Inner Rage or possibly Don Han’cho buffs as a second win condition.

Scourgelord Garrosh: Scourgelord Garrosh is a very powerful tool as Shadowmourne allows you to deal cleave damage and clear out taunts that might be in your way from dealing your OTK damage.

Wild Pyromancer: Wild Pyromancer is one of the core removal pieces in the deck and enables a lot of board clear combos and activates cards like Battle Rage. The Wild Pyromancer and Commanding Shout package has been very important in all instances of OTK Warrior throughout the game’s history and it has been proven to be highly efficient and helping players draw out their deck and deal with enemy board stats.

Acolyte of Pain: Acolyte of Pain works very well in the deck with plenty of means to deal damage to the minion through spells, weapons and minion effects. You should always try to draw at least 2 cards with the minion.

Leeroy Jenkins: With Charge nerfed, Leeroy Jenkins becomes part of the OTK package in this new iteration of OTK Warrior.

don-hancho: Don Han’cho is the first step to your two turn OTK win condition. You ideally want to draw your cards as quickly as possible and then empty your hand of minions to have only Leeroy in your hand. Buffing Leeroy and following up with 2X Inner Rage and Sudden Genesis leads to a 30 damage burst combo.

Conclusion

The deck has been successful in high Legend ranks but it is quite difficult to pilot and you might have varying levels of success depending on what the metagame is like at your ranks. It is a very fun deck to play and works remarkably well against non-Mage decks. The deck being very new to the meta can also catch people off guard and opponents might not know what you are up to until the very end.
