The much ballyhooed return of 2013 Orange Esports is officially over before it even begins.
Chinese Dota mainstay EHOME announced the release of its Malaysian division yesterday on Twitter. The roster, which included 2013 International MVP Chai “Mushi” Yee Fung and his counterpart Chong “Ohaiyo” Xin Khoo, was expected to rekindle the magic of the original Orange Esports lineup that took the Dota main event by storm.
With Chai on one roster and players like Bai “ROTK” Fan and Zhang “Lanm” Zhicheng on the other, the future had looked bright for the storied organization before the news today.
While EHOME provided no specific reason for the dismissal, it’s likely that the organization has chosen to double-down on its Chinese roster, which has struggled recently.Â
In the wake of the decision, many are left wondering whether Chai’s career has any magic left. The prolific player piloted Orange to a third-place finish at The International in 2013, but subsequent success at the highest level has failed to manifest with appreciable consistency.
At this time, Neither Chai nor his teammates have given any indication where they will play going forward.
