Ed officially announced as next Street Fighter V character

His identity had already been revealed thanks to a pair of leaks earlier this month.

Capcom’s worst-kept secret is finally out.

Ed will soon join the cast of Street Fighter V, Capcom announced via a blog post on Monday. When released, he can be bought for $5.99 or 100,000 of Street Fighter V’s in-game currency, Fight Money.

Ed, the third of six characters to be added in the game’s second season, is a character who was abducted by Shadowloo and raised by Balrog as a replacement body for M. Bison. Those influences mean that his moveset will include a lot of Balrog’s boxing and a healthy dose of Bison’s Psycho Power.

Although Monday marked the official confirmation of Ed’s addition to the cast, his appearance is hardly a surprise. Earlier this month, the PlayStation Store description of Street Fighter V’s Season 2 character pass listed Ed as one of the characters included in the pass, along with the already-released Akuma and Kolin. Ed’s name was removed from the description, but not before screenshots spread across social media.

Further proof was found on the Street Fighter website itself this past weekend. Intrepid fans discovered a pair of uploaded but not yet linked promotional photos of Ed. A few more screenshots and GIFs of the character in action were discovered shortly before Capcom’s official announcement.

Ed’s exact release date remains up in the air. Capcom previously announced that the game’s next DLC character will be released alongside a balance patch and an update to the game’s online platform, the Capcom Fighters Network, on a to-be-determined date. A four-day open beta for these new changes—including Ed—will begin on May 11.
