The Lab

The Far Forward GPS is an electronic item that can be obtained in multiple ways. The first and most common spot is by traveling to The Lab, which contains several areas that can spawn rare or electronic items.

The spawn locations of the Far Forward GPS are affected by RNG, so you’ll have to loot around The Lab to find one. Thankfully, the Escape from Tarkov fansite Tarkov.Dev has a fantastic map that makes navigating the space easier. Below is a table showcasing each spawn location, and their respective floors:

First FloorSecond Floor
– Main Working Area
– Parking Garage
– Lecture
– Dome
– Robots
– Mini-Medbay (next to Dome)
– Weapon Testing Area
– Conference Room
– Admin
– Offices
– Parking Gate Office
– Manager Office
– Upper Warehouse

You can also obtain a Far Forward GPS by completing the “Following the Bread Crumbs” quest. This quest is unlocked 10 hours after completing “Provocation” and requires you to explore The Lab, take out raiders, and bring back tapes to Lightkeeper.

Once you complete this quest, you’ll be gifted a single Far Forward GPS.

Trading

After you complete the “Following the Bread Crumbs” quest, you can trade a large amount of resources with the Mechanic for a Far Forward GPS. You must be loyalty level four to initiate this trade, which can only be achieved once you reach level 40.

The items you’ll need to trade are:

  • 15 Military Gyrotachometers.
  • 50 Bundles of Wires.
  • 10 Gas Analyzers.
  • Eight Military COFDM Wireless Signal Transmitters.

After exchanging all these items with the Mechanic, you’ll receive one Far Forward GPS.

The Far Forward GPS has two important uses: Upgrading the Intelligence Center to level three and crafting Microcontroller Boards.

The Intelligence Center is a building inside your Hideout or player base that increases the amount of money you receive from quests and flea market commissions, unlocks Scav Tasks, and is used to craft rare items.

Upgrading the Intelligence Center to level three will unlock a 30 percent increase to all Flea market commissions, a 20 percent cooldown on Scav Tasks, and the ability to craft four rare items. To upgrade the Intelligence Center to level three, you’ll need one Far Forward GPS.

Crafting a Microcontroller Board is the other way you can use your Far Forward GPS units. These boards are used to craft many valuable weapons like the Colt M4A1 or the FN SCAR-H assault rifles. To craft Microcontroller Boards, you’ll need all of these materials:

  • One Silicon Optoelectronic Integrated Circuits Textbook.
  • One Flat Screwdriver.
  • One Elite Pliers.
  • One Far Forward GPS.
