Virtus Pro continue to struggle at MDL Macau

Two top teams didn't have a great time on day two of MDL Macau.

After an extremely-disappointing start to their tournament, Virtus Pro wanted to get back on track during the second day of MDL Macau 2019.

The second-ranked team on the Dota Pro Circuit only won a single game during their first day at the competition, meaning they needed to get something going early if they wanted to salvage their round robin stage.

Their first opponent of the day was the depleted EHOME roster, which didn’t stand much of a chance even against a struggling VP. By the end of the second day, EHOME were dead last in the standings after losing to both VP and Royal Never Give Up.

Unfortunately for VP, that win didn’t spark the fire they wanted as they went on to lose back-to-back games against Newbee and a surging Invictus Gaming. That left them with a pitiful 2-5 record as they now sit in the lower bracket for the playoffs.

It wasn’t just the teams at the bottom of the standings that had issues, either. Evil Geniuses lost two of their three matches and fell from the top seed down to third by the end of the day. Both of those losses came at the hands of teams who now sit above them: Vici Gaming and Team Liquid.

Vici are actually only holding the second seed because of their victory over EG. They both have a 4-3 record, but Vici have the tiebreaker. Liquid, on the other hand, are the big winners of the day, moving up to the top spot in the standings as they head into the playoffs.

As it stands, Liquid, Vici, EG, and Royal will all compete in the upper bracket, while the remaining teams face elimination in the lower bracket.
