The final event of the Dota 2 Pro Circuit has concluded, with defending International champions Team Liquid being the winners of the China Dota 2 Supermajor.

Kuro “KuroKy” Salehi Takhasomi and the rest of his companions on Liquid defeated Virtus Pro in one of the most enthralling grand finals from this Pro Circuit season. The match went all five games, with neither side giving ground to the other the whole time. It was a show of sheer Dota 2 supremacy and skill by two of the top three teams in the world—at least, in terms of points on the Pro Circuit leaderboard.

This result effectively breaks the “Major curse” that Liquid had been experiencing throughout the season, where they were unable to actually win a Major event. Their three Minor championships and two second-place finishes in other events did help raise them to a safe spot on the leaderboard, but it wasn’t until the last ranking event of the year where they finally clinched a Major title.

Their victory also grants them a total of 3,375 Pro Circuit points, putting them above PSG-LGD and below VP on the leaderboard. Given that they had already secured a direct invite at Epicenter XL, though, the points hardly matter now. What they’ll be happy about, though, is the stack of cash they just earned: $555,000.

More importantly, however, Liquid will have a significant amount of momentum on their hands going into TI8. With the world championship tournament just two months away, every mental advantage they can get will count toward their title defense efforts in Vancouver. All things considered, they’re looking poised to make Dota 2 history this year—as the first team to win two TI titles, and the first to successfully defend their trophy.
