The lower bracket of the MDL Disneyland Paris Major kicked off with a pair of single-elimination matches that exposed some of the newer talents in the field to the harshness of a Major stage.

First, Complexity Gaming took on the recently-signed beastcoast roster, who had yet to show much during any of their DPC appearances.

When they were still going by Team Team, the beastcoast roster managed to place fifth at The Bucharest Minor, but that is their sole appearance in any qualifying event. Complexity has even less experience, with this being their first DPC event of the entire season, but it didn’t show in how they played.

After fighting against the likes of Evil Geniuses and OG, Complexity was more than ready to battle a familiar opponent from their North American stomping ground.

It was extremely close early, but a few key errors in the middle of the game let Complexity take control and lock beastcoast down in the lanes. From there, Complexity slowly broke down their opponent’s defenses until there was nothing left.

With that win, Complexity has advanced to round two, where they will face LGD Gaming. Conversely, Beastcoast has been eliminated from the tournament.

The second match of the lower bracket was a battle between Mineski and another team making their DPC season debut, Team Empire. It wasn’t much of a contest, though, because Empire continued their poor play from groups.

Mineski got off to an incredibly slow start, sitting back as Empire pushed hard, but that push was fruitless. Mineski quickly got things rolling in their favor, and around the 15-minute mark, things started looking bleak for Empire. Mineski broke into Empire’s inner defenses, and 20 minutes after the match began, Mineski secured the victory.

Empire joins beastcoast in a tie for last place with the loss. Mineski will face one of their toughest tests, Virtus Pro, in the next round.
