After placing third in the Major qualifiers, Complexity Gaming is headed to the StarLadder ImbaTV Dota 2 Minor for one last shot at the EPICENTER Major.
Complexity was bested by both Forward Gaming and Evil Geniuses in the Major qualifiers, losing out on both of the North American slots reserved at EPICENTER.
With the team coming so close to another Dota Pro Circuit Major, they came into the NA qualifiers for the StarLadder Minor as early favorites. It also helped that they got to play a newly formed stack of players in the first round.
Since NA only received one spot at the Minor, only four teams were competing in the closed qualifiers. Both Complexity and J Storm were invited while beastcoast and Young Drug Gaming made it in through the open qualifiers.
YDG was formed to compete in NA and is made up of relatively unknown players from various regions, including both NA and China. Complexity had little trouble beating the less experienced team and moving on to face J Storm.
J Storm along with Forward have been battling back and forth for the second seed in NA all season, with both ranking in the top 20 of the DPC. However, even after besting beastcoast it looked like they were still playing a little slower than usual.
Even after losing game one, Complexity took advantage of that slower pace and managed to win two games in a row. J Storm would beat beastcoast again, 2-0 in the lower bracket to set up a rematch with Complexity in the grand finals.
This time Complexity had their opponents figured out, crushing them in game one and then holding out against a late push in game two.
With that 2-0 sweep, Complexity moves on to their first Minor of the season, with hopes of qualifying for their second straight Major. The top two teams from the StarLadder Minor will qualify for the EPICENTER Major.
All eight teams competing in the Minor will be finalized on May 24 when the last matches of the closed qualifiers in Europe wrap up.
