College Football 25 passes Helldivers 2 to become America’s best-selling game of 2024

First downs over fighting for the galaxy.

If there are two things Americans are stereotypically known for, it’s football and freedom. And among the most popular video games of the year, these two aspects are reflected perfectly with College Football 25 surpassing Helldivers 2 to become America’s best-selling game of 2024.

According to Circana’s Mat Piscatella, College Football 25 blew past Helldivers 2 this month, along with other popular titles like Modern Warfare 3 and Dragon’s Dogma 2, to become the biggest release the U.S. has seen so far this year. Piscatella even said the football title had “exceeded expectations,” which were already set at a high mark.

Early in the year, Helldivers 2 became one of the most popular games in the country, bringing together a whole player base in the fight against oncoming invasions from aliens, automatons, and more. This was an incredible ride for most enthusiasts, who banded together to free sectors of the galaxy as an ever-expanding war machine for humanity.

It was also a perfect example of a game that resonated with the American people, as seen from its massive numbers across multiple platforms. This title was, however, eventually dethroned by the one thing that captivated the nation even more: good ol’ football.

College Football 25 was a game many football fans had been waiting for since 2014 and has been a highly requested title among die-hard football fanatics. With schools represented across the country and some of the most promising prospects at your disposal, the game catered to the college frenzy that takes over America each fall.

Road to Glory mode threw players into the shoes of a college hopeful as they balance their school life with their play on the field, while Dynasty mode gave armchair managers a beautiful place to build out the program of their dreams.

The CFB gameplay was completely revamped from years past with incredible movement and mechanics, and in the eyes of many, it surpassed EA’s Madden franchise as the go-to football game on the market. Now, players are looking at Madden with a heftier microscope and debating if it’s even worth picking up in the first place.
