The CWL Pro League’s regular season has come to an end, and the final standings are official.
Despite OpTic Gaming, eUnited, Rise Nation, and UNILAD already clinching Division B’s four playoffs spots before today, top-seeded OpTic still had a showdown with rival Luminosity, arguably Stage Two’s biggest disappointment, to close out the regular season.
The teams looked their parts as OpTic won game one, 250-110. Luminosity bounced back, though, winning an intense 11-round Search and Destroy game to tie the series up going into Ardennes Forest Capture the Flag.
LG’s newfound momentum led them through Ardennes, eventually securing an extra-time capture to win game three. Unfortunately, they were unable to close it out in the following respawn map. OpTic’s superb Hardpoint play continued in the fourth game, London Docks Hardpoint, pushing the series to a fifth and final map.
In game five, the teams pushed back and forth until the 11th round. There, two-time world champion Jordan “JKap” Kaplan of Luminosity completed a one-vs-three clutch in the final round to clinch LG’s sixth win of the stage.
In the other matches on Thursday, Mindfreak took out its fellow Australian competition, Tainted Minds in four games to sweep the season series. UNILAD followed that up with a four-game victory over Rise Nation, who dropped to fourth in the division with the loss.
EUnited, who have experienced a massive turnaround in the second half of the season, continued their strong play with a sweep against compLexity and secured the second seed in the division.
