One of the most entertaining competitive Call of Duty titles of all time is making its way onto a next-gen console. Thanks to backwards compatibility, Call of Duty: Black Ops II is now playable on the Xbox One, according to Charlie Intel.
Players who owned Black Ops II on Xbox 360 can use their original disc or digital download to access the game on Xbox One. All original Black Ops II downloadable content and multiplayer statistics from Xbox 360 will also reportedly carry over to Xbox One when playing in backwards compatibility.
Black Ops II is widely regarded as the beginning of a new era in Call of Duty esports. There wasn’t much of a competitive season in 2012 on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Black Ops II changed the scene forever and put Call of Duty esports back on the map.
Machinima, MLG, Activision, UMG, Gfinity, and ESWC all hosted events throughout the 2012-13 season, and this plethora of tournaments truly brought Call of Duty esports back to life.
Black Ops II is now one of several older Call of Duty games that can be played on Xbox One’s backwards compatibility program, including Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty 3, Call of Duty: World at War, and Call of Duty: Black Ops.
Call of Duty players who didn’t make the switch over to the PlayStation 4 and still own an Xbox One will be thrilled to once again play one of the best installments in the Call of Duty franchise.
