Following the success of its Winder Madness tournament, WePlay has announced it will host another seasonal event, this time themed around Valentine’s Day.
Valentine Madness will run in a similar fashion to the Winter event, but with a few key changes.
Twelve teams will be competing in the event, eight of those teams will be seeded into a group stage matchup while the other four get slotted directly into the quarterfinals. The first round of the lower bracket will be the standard best-of-one format, but that is where things become a bit different.
Instead of the losing team being eliminated during either of the first two rounds, WePlay is implementing what they call the “Three Game Guarantee System.” This new format will give each team that loses in the first round of the lower bracket one more chance in a second best-of-one match.
The remaining matches will be played as a standard best-of-three, double elimination tournament until the grand finals where the series will be best-of-five.
The Winter Madness Champions, Gambit Esports have already confirmed they will be attending the event to defend their WePlay title. The other 11 teams will be announced over the course of the next few days.
The event will be held Feb. 9 to 16, lasting a few days past the holiday it is named for. Competitors will be battling for their share of a $100,000 prize pool.
