Dota 2’s ranking medals get a facelift as Divine rank is divided further among top players

Each medal got new and improved graphics.

The new Dota 2 ranked matchmaking system, implemented late last November, is in full swing. Not more than two weeks later, however, Valve has already given the system a cosmetic update—particularly for the medals associated with each tier.

All of the medals have been given a facelift, with each one getting a new graphic based on certain items in the game.

For example, the Herald medal has a Tango hiding in plain sight, right behind the left side. The Guardian, Crusader, and Archon medals have more subtle references to Buckler, Ring of Aquila, and Eul’s Scepter of Divinity, respectively.

Past that, however, the item designs become increasingly obvious. The Legend medal is based on Black King Bar, and the Ancient medal has an in-your-face Manta Style on the wings of the tapestry.

The Divine rank not only gets an updated medal, but three new ones as well. There are now medals corresponding to Divine Elite (signifying one’s eligibility for appearance on the leaderboards), the top 100, and the top ten players within that rank.

After Divine, each medal become significantly more extravagant, in order to reflect the prestige of being one of the best players in Dota 2. The three new Divine medals will also display the leaderboard ranks of their bearers as numbers at the bottom center of the icon.
