And we are back with the second part of the Menagerie Brews!
I thought I wasn’t going to have as many brews as I actually ended up having, so The Menagerie Brews ended up becoming a two part article.
Two of the brews you guys are going to encounter here are the craziest ones, Illuminati level of crazy, and if you guys were looking for the strangest brews to playtest this weekend, well: You’ve found them!
The Menagerie got us a couple of awesome new cards to play, and those cards spawned a lot of different deck playstyles all across the board, so get ready for the second part of our Menagerie Brews!
Beginning with the crazy ones!
Dragon Paladin
Well, damn. When I started writing part one I didn’t think that this was going to be possible, at least not without the next wing and possibly a Control version of the deck.
Truth be told, I don’t know if Dragon Paladin is going to be legit. It seems to fare poorly against Dragon Warrior, but at the same time it does seem to have strong advantages across the board that I really want to playtest a deck such as this one. It also does seem better than Dragon Warrior against stuff such as Control Warrior for instance, given its peculiarities.
As for the deck, it is something that came to my some time after – We don’t need to drop the Aggro Paladin playstyle in favor of a Control Paladin in order to play Dragon Paladin, we could just take advantage of the heavy tempo tools of Aggro Paladin, combine those tools with the Tempo strength of dragon-consort and we have something quite promising in our hands.
Anyway, as most of the decks we posted this is a pure brew, and might require a lot of playtesting in order to become good, but it seems fun enough that i’ll want to give it a try really soon.
Secret Hunter
And Secret Hunter finally got their 5-drop. This is a card most people are dismissing at this point in time because they don’t want to playtest without fixed lists. Well, here is one for you!
This list will not only help us playtest avian-watcher, but cat-trick as well as both cards seem to be able to go into the same deck.
There is this one thing that I’ve be doing in my brews this week quite often is playtesting two cards together, so try to pay attention to how the secondary card (in this deck’s case, Cat Trick) fair in the deck, instead of playtesting the deck as a whole.
Cat Trick can be ultimately replaced by either snipe or bear-trap, if it doesn’t play well. Meanwhile, avian-watcher seems to be the soul of the deck, and if the card doesn’t end up being good enough, we’ll have to keep playing the non-secret version of Midrange Hunter for the duration of the expansion, because it has already proven itself better than the Secrets version last week without Avian Watcher.
Secret Hunter is a deck that has a lot of potential regarding Avian Watcher, so don’t forget to keep me posted about your playtesting results!
Dragon Warrior
And here we go again with another obvious deck.
Dragon Warrior is a deck that has been played quite a lot last expansion, so we know it works. Thing is the-curator seems to have brought even more to the deck, so it is time we make some changes to the deck’s core to adapt it to The Curator so we can actually playtest the card to see if it makes the deck better.
And since we also get a super controversial card this week, we decided that it was time to also playtest fools-bane, cutting one frothing-berserker in favor of the weapon.
Fool’s Bane is a card that we’ll be playtesting a lot this week together with The Curator in Dragon Warrior, this happens because the card has “tempo” written all over it, and we just have to playtest it in our Tempo-based Warrior deck, haven’t we?
In case the Weapon doesn’t work well, we can just cut it in favor of frothing-berserker once again without a problem, meanwhile the-curator seems to be the reason why we implemented fierce-monkey in our deck in the first place, so we have to playtest everything and see how it goes.
Don’t forget that despite the changes we did, this deck is still Dragon Warrior, so its raw power will still win a lot of games on its own. What we aim to accomplish here is playtesting the cards we want to playtest.
Closing
And this pretty much covers all the Brews I want to playtest this week, at least up until this very moment!
So many cards! I don’t know if I’ll have the time to playtest everything the way I want to, but I surely will try! This weekend I am also hosting a Fireside Gathering so maybe we could be testing the decks in the Fireside’s tournaments.
In any way, I want to ask you guys for help once again in the playtestings! For both part’s Brews: Don’t forget to post your results in the comments!
Love you guys, we’ll be seeing each other again very soon in the coming articles!
Much love,
Nuba
