As Archon prepares to launch its major new Hearthstone league later today, there’s more good news for the organization: It’s added a major new partner, an established esports brand that is entering Hearthstone for the first time.
Leading esports fantasy platform AlphaDraft will sponsor the inaugural Archon Team League Championship (ATLC). The site is also adding Hearthstone its portfolio of games it covers today, bringing its total to five games.
The ATLC boasts a $250,000 prize pool, the joint largest prize pool ever seen in Hearthstone esports. Only the Hearthstone World Championships has matched it. AlphaDraft will also be sponsoring Dota 2 tournament Beyond the Summit.
The company closed a $5 million round of seed funding in May, with former NBA commissioner David Stern among the investors.
Archon did not respond to a request for comment.Â
Update 11:10am, July 1: Archon provided the Daily Dot the following statement:
“At the moment AlphaDraft is the only official sponsor of the league, although a big part of it is funded by Archon itself, so indirectly by other sponsors. In time, and with the (hopefully) expected success of the league, if other sponsors come forward to directly fund it, they will certainly be announced and they woule certainly want to be promoted.”
