After only one NA LCS split together, Song “Fly” Yong-jun and Lee “Shrimp” Byeong-hoon have both left FlyQuest, the team announced via Twitter.
The announcement was brief and gave a polite farewell, with FlyQuest giving little details on the departure of Fly and Shrimp. Immediately after the initial announcement, FlyQuest revealed that its CEO Ryan Edens and General Manager Nick Phan will be hosting an Ask Me Anything (AMA) on May 4, in which they will “discuss [FlyQuest’s] roster moves and plans heading into the Summer Split.”
The future plans for both Fly and Shrimp are currently unknown. Neither player has commented yet on their departure from FlyQuest.
Fly, who initially joined FlyQuest in November 2017, faced many issues during his time on the team due to visa complications. Fly was unable to play until week four of the NA LCS Spring Split, which equated to six best-of-one matches. In Fly’s stead, FlyQuest substituted in academy mid laner Jang “Keane” Lae-young. Fly’s long-awaited NA LCS debut saw mediocre results. With Fly, FlyQuest garnered a match record of four wins to eight losses, only slightly better than their win record with Keane. FlyQuest ended the Spring Split in eighth place.
Shrimp, on the other hand, had a terrific Spring Split in the NA LCS’ Academy League. Alongside the rest of FlyQuest Academy, Shrimp won the inaugural Academy League Spring Split, beating Echo Fox in the playoff final. Shrimp made a brief appearance on FlyQuest’s main roster during the Spring Split, but lost the two NA LCS games he played.
While no exact date has been confirmed as of yet, expect the NA LCS to make its usual summer return in June.
