International Elo Ratings
The upset of the summer occurred in China where Unlimited Potential, the 2nd last place team in China, 2-0’d EDG, giving them their first defeat and single-handedly bringing their rating back down to earth. In Korea the KOO Tigers, proud owner’s of the most difficult schedule in any league, restored some confidence in themselves by beating KT Rolster. In EU Origen’s rapid climb was interrupted by Roccat leaving Fnatic and ahq as the only undefeated teams in any major region. In NA no one can close out games, leading to nearly random outcomes.

Last week I showed you the average strength of the opponent’s had faced. I emphasised, in particular, the difficulty of Roccat and Gambit’s schedules; both went on to do much better this weekend. This week I’ve done the same for China and Korea.
Of particular note is the incredibly difficult opponent’s the KOO Tigers have faced. They’ve played every top team in Korea and Samsung; their last three opponent’s this half will be Anarchy, Prime and IM. Â And if they’re going to take a playoff spot by the midway point from anyone it looks like it will be Najin or Jin Air, who both have very difficult opponent’s remaining.
In China the differences are less stark. What is notable are the low ratings of King’s opponents. King is a low-rated for China which means that the ratings of the opponent’s they could face are higher. The fact that they’ve managed to face a schedule of below-average difficulty while also being the worst LPL team (or third best LSPL team) speaks volumes about their prospects.
