Matthew “MaTTcom” Marikian, general manager and art director for CLG said, “The reason we’re doing an exercise like this is to find people who are driven for success, love problem solving, and love League of Legends. Even if this is a random strategic element of the game, finding the most efficient way to approach it will prove that you can look at the smallest details of the game and be able to abuse it and approach it from a strategic standpoint in the most optimal way. These are the qualities we look for in our analysts, and we want to have the best analysts possible to be able to bring up to a professional level.”

The challenge is aimed at getting the most efficiency out of every resource that is available in order to beat the competition. Controlling minion waves, experience, runes, masteries and movement are all crucial.

Incoming updates to the game have already been posted on the Public Beta Environment. That’s why CLG want to recruit someone whose skills are exemplified by this challenge. Included are gameplay updates to six marksmen, changes to the masteries, and objective additions like the Rift Herald and more.

While there is plenty of time before the next split of the North American League Championship Series, CLG is going through some big changes. Historically, CLG has always had a foundation to build its team on, with the famed Doublelift in the bot lane being the central focus. With the departure of Doublelift and Pobelter from CLG, the organization has an opportunity to start fresh and build a new team identity.

With the massive changes on the PBE, and CLG’s need to recover and put together a strong roster, the Bot Challenge is a way for the ambitious and talented to get some exposure. The gameplay changes are focused around making League a more team-oriented game so professional players should put their focus on that rather than trying to figure out the most optimal masteries.

Although it’s not impossible, it seems unlikely that a person knowledgeable enough to win this challenge will also have an extensive coaching background. The CLG staff knows this, but CLG’s goal isn’t to find some otherworldly talent out of nowhere — however nice it would be.  The goal of the challenge is to find an expert with a cerebral understanding of the game, and raise that person up to become a professional analyst.

CLG is releasing the fastest times every day on their official twitter page.

The challenge ends on 11/10/15, at 10 P.M. PST.
