1. Quick Guide

Masteries : 18/0/12

Since Warlord’s Bloodlust has been nerfed, we take Fervor of Battle in the first tree. Let’s see in the next patch.

Runes :

  Mark Seal Glyph Quintessence
1

 +   x2
2

 +  x2

Attack Speed (Red), HP or HP/LVL (Yellow), Magic Resist (Blue), Attack Speed and Armor x2 (Quintessence). As you can see, the only difference is in the Seal’s runes between HP (1) and HP/LVL (2). Basically, 1 is against AD and 2 against AP or easy lane. Remember that HP/LVL become better than HP after level 6.

Summoners :

      or

You can take both Ignite or Teleportation. It depends on the metagame, if you want to control your lane (Tp) or win your lane (Ignite), if you play against easy or hard match up. And Flash.

Build :

It’s the core build for Tryndamere.

Skill order :

Level 1 2 3 4
Skill E A A Z

It’s the main skill order for Tryndamere. You start with E to avoid early gank then you take your A 2 times to start to increase your heal then you take 1 point in Z, your anti-ad spell.

After that, max A first, E second and Z third. And of course your R as soon as possible.

2. Choose your opponent

ADVICES (toplane) :

C for Competence : It’s valuable for every match up. You should try to dodge ennemy abilities. It means you should know your ennemy. Some examples : Shyvana (E and auto attack = 2.5% Hp max damages), Aatrox (Z, the third auto attack), Gnar (Z, the third attack or spell), Kennen (Z, the 5th auto attack), Kayle (E), Riven (A, the third activation). Don t forget to click on the ennemy champion to see the detail of his abilities. You need to force trade when ennemy abilities are on cooldown, it’s the key to win the toplane.

E for Early game : You have to be careful early game against a couple of champions who can kill or force you to leave lane. I have pointed out : Fiora, Riven, Kayle, Yasuo, Shen, Rengar, Renekton, Rumble, Pantheon. Remember that Tryndamere is a late game champion and start often to be safe at level 4 (2 points in A, 1 point Z, 1 point E) with good healing (A), anti-ad ability (Z) and damage/escape (E).

F for Farm : Sometimes you have no opportunity to kill your opponent, so remember, the most important thing for Tryndamere is to keep your farm up. Even if you lose your lane, it will be ok if you have the same amount of farm than your opponent. For example : you can t win the lane versus Trundle. So try to farm and wait the late game. You can also farm the jungle next to you.

H for Health points : You don t want to give your opponent an opportunity to kill you so you need to keep your health pool up, not low. At least, try to have the same amount of life than him. Use potions, one or two at the same time. It’s particularly true against some champions who can burst you : Elise, Riven, Pantheon…

I for Items :  Some items can change the lane and can help you a lot. For examples : Tabi ninja against Riven. Buying 2 Doran’s Blade and a Vampiric Scepter can help you against a lot of match up to sustain. It’s also good to see what the ennemy is buying, don t forget to check it.

M for Mana : Since Tryndamere has no mana cost, a good thing to be safe in lane is to force ennemy to use mana. No mana = safety. For example : Hecarim, Pantheon, Darius, Elise.

P for Push : It’s often good to push the lane or at least don t be pushed under tower, especially against champion who can easily poke you under tower, like range or AD caster like Pantheon. While pushing you also avoid your opponent to gank other lane.

S for Sustain : It’s the main strenght of Tryndamere who has naturally healing with his abilities. It’s a good think to trade damage with champion without it like Jax to force them back to base.

T for Team : You can face really hard match up (Vayne, Quinn, Kennen…) where you can t even farm. Call for help your team and especially your jungler, it’s the only thing to do. At least, try to not give your opponent kills.

3. Explanations

Abilities

Battle Fury (passive) : More fury = more critical strike chance.

Bloodlust (A) : Use it to heal yourself, you can spam it against hard match up, using it everytime it’s up. If you plan to fight against your ennemy, you have to stack fury, attacking minions before trade and keep it up, especially after level 6 when your ultimate prevent you for death. Don t forget passive of the spell : it gives you AD and an amount of AD per % Health missing.

Mocking shout (Z) : That’s why Tryndamere is good against AD champions. It’s a slow when ennemy is not facing you. But it’s also and always a decreased AD spell. You have to use it before the ennemy uses abilities on you, for example before Riven jumps you down.

Spinning Slash (E) : your only way to escape. You need to use it at the right time. The basic trade with Tryndamere is auto attack then E to fall back, applying damage of Spinning Slash to your opponent. You can also use it to run after the ennemy or to avoid some of his abilities. Be careful when your E is not up, it’s your weakness.

Undying Rage (R) : That’s why you are (almost) immortal. Don t forget it gives you instantly some fury too.

Items

The main build for Tryndamere is BotRK and Statikk Shiv. You have to adapt to the situation to know what to buy first. For example, if you are ahead or if you want to burst the ennemy, choose Statikk Shiv first. For example, you want to burst Aatrox during a teamfight to avoid him to life steal and survive a long time.

Here comes others items good to know when you play Tryndamere.

Item  Why ?
Good to counter auto attack in early game (range champions). Good against single target champion abilities.

Health, Attack Damage, Life Steal : Tryndamere’s dream.

Can be stacked ! You should do it against hard match up.

Against AD with AOE champions.

Against AP and CC Team.

Anti AD item, good against full AD champions like Riven, Renekton.

To push lane and for more AS/damages. Especially good against ap and range, to follow up.

To sustain and follow up ennemy, especially range.

Add attack speed and 15 physical damage. Good to consider too.

The new Zeal is one of the most cost efficient item on Tryndamere. Good to build on the first back to base if you are ahead.

Against Tank, to sustain and for long trade.

 To burst.
