A recent report has been circulating online detailing how some Riot skins for League of Legends actually hinder instead of aid some champions in the game. Today, we look at Janna, and her two skins in question that have been causing problems: Forecast Janna, and most recently, Star Guardian Janna. More detailed information can be found here.
The two points that are commonly brought up are that Star Guardian’s howling gale (Q) is more visually noisy and more noticeable. Additionally, the monsoon heal (R) is difficult to notice and is visually quiet in comparison with other skins. You can see both results below, as posted by Frozzie on the LoL subreddit.
The distinct differences for her (Q) may alert individuals to her use in comparison to her normal look, but I would not say that her (R) has distinct differences. I would argue that the use of her ultimate and its effects for both normal looking Janna and skinned Janna is entirely dependent on when and where it’s played on the map. It feels as though in this instance, the river isn’t the most notable for the Star Guardian ultimate, but in lane, it may be more noticeable.
If this were the case, I’m sure Riot would be able to add a few fixes to give the champion a better visual feel, but for the moment, it feels like certain aspects of the original argument are true. In a noisy team fight, the ultimate may not offer audio stimulus for your team, especially in ranked play, for them to know they can go in and are being healed in the heat of the moment. With a lack of visual cues, like in her normal look, it gives the skin a slight, but noticeable, disadvantage.
