Four players on the Chiefs Esports Club in the Oceanic region have received suspensions over the breach of rules in the OPL, the OCE region announced.
Samuel “Spookz” Broadley, Simon “Swiffer” Papamarkos, Quin “Raes” Korebrits and Bryce “EGym” Paule were all found guilty of playing on accounts shared by the four of them in Korean solo queue to practice for an upcoming international tournament they would be attending.
The use of this Korean account is a direct breach of the OCE’s account sharing rules. Therefore, Riot ruled that, “Spookz, Swiffer, Raes, EGym, Frank Li and Chiefs Esports Club have violated section 10.2.8 of the OPL ruleset and is subject to penalties. Spookz, Swiffer, Raes and EGym are ineligible for all Riot-affiliated League of Legends competition for the following two matches of the 2017 OPL Season,” Riot continued. “They will be eligible to compete on April 1, week 10 of the 2017 OPL Split 1.
Chiefs was fined $1,000 AUD, while Frank Li, the founder and owner of the organization, was also fined $3,000 AUD. This situation could certainly damper the team’s ambition to attend the Mid-Season Invitational.
The team, therefore, released a statement themselves on the verdict, concluding that they, “are disappointed by the outcome of the ruling but accept the results of our actions.”
