During the Call of Duty Black Ops 3 eSports Reveal, David Vonderhaar of Treyarch informed the Call of Duty community that Sony’s Playstation 4, instead of Microsoft’s Xbox One, would be the new home of the eSports scene for the game. This switch is something that many fans saw coming since Activision announced that the multiplayer beta would be released on the PS4 ahead of the Xbox One.
Multiplayer Beta Release Dates:
Playstation 4 – August 19th to August 23rd
Xbox One and PC – August 26th to August 30th
Full Game Release:
November 6th
The multiplayer beta will be short but sweet. It’s enough time for players to get a good feel for the maps, guns, and movement system, but not enough time for teams to develop real strategies. With the beta being available several months before the full game, it is unlikely that all features will be ready yet.
Activision, the long-time publisher of the most popular first-person-shooter series, is finally taking advantage of a growing interest in eSports. Besides the 1 million dollar Call of Duty Championship, Activision has not been very pro-active toward the eSports scene until now. In a move that shows they care and a hint at things to come, Activision sent current Call of Duty pros all of the world brand new Playstation 4’s. Â Are they edging their way in and taking more control over Call of Duty eSports?
