The reboot of the MW franchise generated more than $600 million in its first three days since release, putting it ahead of Black Ops III and WWII, which previously held the title.

“Call of Duty is once again the top selling new premium game of the year, proving the enduring nature of the franchise across console, PC, mobile, and esports,” Activision CEO Bobby Kotick said. “In its first three days of release, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare more than doubled the box office opening of Joker.”

CoD: MW also set a new record on the PlayStation Network for the highest digital pre-orders and highest three-day digital sales on PS4. On top of that, it’s also the top-selling Call of Duty PC launch ever.

“Through the first three days, Modern Warfare has more total players and total hours played than any Call of Duty opening release in the last six years,” Activision president Rob Kostich said. “We also want to thank the community for your incredible support. The launch of Modern Warfare is only the start. There’s much more to come.”

This is just the beginning for Modern Warfare. Activision has yet to add its new Battle Pass system or any post-launch content, which are both expected in the weeks and months to come.
