NRG Esports will be playing in their first Overwatch tournament since January, at the April Overwatch Monthly Melee.
Following a fifth-place showing at the Major League Gaming Overwatch tournament in Las Vegas in January, NRG Esports has isolated themselves from the competitive scene. Management has taken its time in optimizing the new roster following the team’s string of poor results, landing finally on team captain Brandon “Seagull” Larned, support Tim “Dummy” Olson, tank Seb “numlocked” Barton, DPS André “iddqd” Dahlström, support Alex “Ajax” Johnson, and tank Anthony “harbleu” Ballo.
Fans have been eager to see how the NRG Overwatch team will play in a competitive environment.
When the Overwatch Monthly Melee begins on April 14, NRG will face February and March Overwatch Monthly Melee winners Rogue, along with Immortals, Luminosity Gaming Evil, Meta Athena, Selfless Gaming, and qualifying teams. In group A, NRG’s immediate threats are Immortals and Selfless.
The top two teams from the group stages will be seeded into the upper bracket, while the bottom two teams will head into the lower bracket. From there, the tournament follows a double elimination style bracket in the fight for the $10,000 prize pool.
The April Overwatch Monthly Melee concludes on April 16. Should everything go as NRG planned, it’s likely we’ll see the new roster in the grand finals.
