The autobattler genre has been a huge success in its short life span. Dota Auto Chess was quickly taken onto the mobile platform by Chinese developers Drodo Studios, but now, a little less than a month later, it’s getting the Valve treatment.
Dota Underlords, Valve’s take on Auto Chess, is now in a closed beta that’s available to play for owners of The International 2019 Battle Pass. You can buy the standard Battle Pass for $9.99, but if you prefer waiting for the open beta, it’s coming a lot sooner than you might expect.
Valve’s Dota Underlords has a similar feel and flavor to Auto Chess, but with a more polished and stable outlook. It has the same format and plays around a similar system, but it will have subtle differences.
“Dota Underlords is a new stand-alone game that pits you against seven opponents in a battle of wits that will have you building, combining, and leveling-up a crew in a battle of dominance for the city of White Spire,” Valve said. “In this game, victory is determined not by twitch reflexes, but by superior tactics.”
The open beta will be free to play on Steam for Windows, macOS, and Linux, as well as the iOS and Android platforms on mobile. It’s scheduled to come out in approximately one week, either next Thursday or Friday.
Additionally, it will come with new ranked matchmaking and crossplay across all platforms. Your rank and progression will be shared across all devices.
This article will be updated once a specific release date for the Dota Underlords open beta has been revealed.
