How to open the safe in Hollowbody – Safe code solution

Helen's memory lives on with this Hollowbody puzzle.

The first puzzle of Hollowbody traps Mica inside the apartment complex, and the only way out is by breaking into a safe. But you need to figure out the safe code to get inside. Thankfully, you don’t need to travel far to figure this out.

Trapped in the exclusion zone, you make your way to the first floor of the apartment complex, eager to reach the rooftop for a good vantage point. Progress appears to be at a standstill, as dropping onto this floor has blocked your access to the stairwell. Elevator out of order and only one place to go, Mica must explore the one room in the apartment complex that will turn everything on its head.

Here is how to open the safe in Hollowbody.

Mica drops into the first floor, with only one apartment in sight. While the electronic door is locked, a Makeshift Club with nails embedded in the wood. Referencing the moment when James Sunderland picks up the first weapon in Silent Hill 2, the Club is fixed into the apartment door, where you can see someone (or something) banging on the other side of it. You hesitantly take the Club, and the door flies open. Preparing for a fight, Mica steps inside and braces herself for the first threat of Hollowbody.

Hollowbody puzzle: Safe code solution

After defeating your first Hollowbody enemy, you find the safe on the wall inside Helen Bridge’s apartment. The first clue to this puzzle is a photo of a building with the word Graduation. However, this isn’t enough information to go off. Instead, you must look around the apartment to uncover the four-digit code. You can find a graduation photo on the wall, a bedside picture frame of Helen’s 30th birthday, a hospital note containing her date of birth, and her university degree.

You only need three clues to figure out the code. These are:

  • Graduation photo (wall opposite safe): Helen was heavily pregnant when she graduated.
  • Patient file (in the kitchen): Helen was born in 2025.
  • Birthday photo: Helen’s son was three when Helen turned 30.

These clues tell us the code is: 2 0 5 2. This will always be the code as this puzzle isn’t randomized. Inputting this into the safe gives you the Long Key. Leaving this room will spawn more enemies, so be ready for a fight.

The Long Key has one function: opening the first floor gate. This is the locked door connecting the stairwell to the first floor. This item will stay in your inventory as you progress through the game and reach the end, but you won’t need it for anything else.
