To add a bit more incentive to your ranked grind, Blizzard Entertainment is adding another way to earn some new rewards in Overwatch 2 with the Competitive Drives system.
Introduced in the latest patch notes, Competitive Drives will be held as limited-time events found in Competitive Play, featured only for Role Queue. Within this event, players will also gain access to new Signature cosmetics to help show off your progression and dedication on your climb to the top. You will, however, need to work together to continue earning towards these various goodies, but it’ll be all worth it in the long run.
Here is everything you’ll need to know about Competitive Drives in Overwatch 2.
What are Competitive Drive events in Overwatch 2?
In Overwatch 2, Competitive Drives take place at the end of a season on a weekend, giving players more rewards as they play competitive matches. In the event, Drive Points are given and taken from players—depending on whether you win or lose your match—and are needed to completed various checkpoints in the event.
Checkpoints prevent you from losing Drive Points, and there are six different checkpoints you can reach during your games. Each checkpoint gives you a reward, so get ready for a pretty tough battle for supremacy. Here are all of the checkpoint rewards you’ll get in the Competitive Drives event:
- 500 Competitive Points
- Signature
- 1000 Competitive Points
- Advanced Signature
- 1500 Competitive Points
- Elite Signature
What are Signatures in Overwatch 2?
Signatures are another cosmetic way to express yourself, since they appear on your name in multiple different areas in the game, including your name card, in Play of the Game highlights, the scoreboard, and in hero select.
These Signatures start off relatively simple, but as you continue to earn Drive Points, they will garner more and more changes to their design. Changes include new animations, a new border, and added effects that will catch your eye, as well as the eyes of your teammates and opponents alike. Whenever you’ve hit a checkpoint, you’ll upgrade your Signature for your name tag to show off just how close you’ve gotten to finishing your Drive total.
These Signatures will, however, be removed after a seasonal rank reset, so don’t be surprised when your name tag has gone back to normal after the ranked season has ended. You’ll just have to grind your way back to the top again to get your fancy Signature as soon as the next season has begun.
