Hear me and rejoice.

Marvel Rivals players will be able to enjoy every hero and playable character for free, which is an announcement that will likely come as a huge surprise to many fans.

NetEase’s free-to-play six-vs-six shooter has completed two extremely successful closed tests and a full release date has been leaked to be Dec. 6—but there were even bigger surprises revealed ahead of Marvel Rivals’ appearance at Gamescom’s Opening Night Live.

In a hastily deleted post on X (formerly Twitter), Epic Games’ premature announcement of the release date included news that every playable character in Marvel Rivals will be free “at launch and beyond.”

This will likely come as a massive surprise to players, with the majority believing there would be a few characters available at the start and others would need to be purchased with real money or in-game currency.

That will not be the case, however, with every character that comes to Marvel Rivals being available without an additional cost—meaning the main source of profit for the game will likely come from cosmetics.

Given Marvel Rivals’ competitive nature, it’s a huge relief that every character will be free and players won’t be locked behind a paywall to play as the most powerful or popular characters on the roster.

Full details are expected to be revealed as part of Gamescom’s Opening Night Live show today, Aug. 20, so we’ll update this article with any further information that’s shared.
