Borderlands 3 Aug. 8 update: All new content and changes

It's been a while, Vault Hunter.

Borderlands content is everywhere right now as Gearbox Software has launched the brand-new Aug. 8, 2024 update to capitalize on the release of the long-awaited Borderlands film.

It’s no secret the Borderlands film and its somewhat puzzling cast haven’t generated the most positive reviews. There’s even a sense among fans it has returned us to the dark ages of video game movies. Nevertheless, a successful piece of Borderlands media everyone still talks about is the third mainline iteration of the long-running franchise—Borderlands 3.

Developer Gearbox Software has issued a new update for the first-person shooter looter, and we have the details on the new update available right now on all platforms.

Max Level characters aplenty

A huge quality of life change from Gearbox makes it so you can create a max level character directly from the main menu, provided you’ve already beaten the game and maxed out a character the old-fashioned way previously.

This is perfect if you want a friend to jump straight into a new game with you, or if you want to try out a different Vault Hunter to see if you’ve been missing out this whole time.

Auto-sell your garbage

Another handy change—which would’ve been helpful at Borderlands 3‘s launch—is the addition of a new “auto-sell gear” function. Players can enable the feature in their settings, and when you complete subsequent missions, the shooter “sells gear below your set rarity when picked up.”

The patch notes also warn you that “any mission reward items offered as a pickup could be automatically sold if auto-sell is enabled.”

Be vigilant.

Minor Steam deck change

If you’re a Borderlands 3 player on Steam Deck, you can now increase the font size—which can be accessed via the Settings menu.
