Once Human Ravenous Hunter boss guide: Location, how to beat, and rewards

Hunt the Hunter.

Boss battles in Once Human are quite rewarding, making it essential for metahumans to challenge intimidating Deviants every once in a while. The Ravenous Hunter is the first boss you encounter in the game, but if you’re expecting it to be an easy fight, think again.

The Ravenous Hunter boss fight appears as part of your Welcome Back quest line in Once Human, so you should receive the prompt to visit its location as you progress through the game.

The Ravenous Hunter spawns within a lab in Dayton Wetlands’ Monolith of Greed. The exact coordinates of the lab are (5954, -4673). To access the boss, you need to enter the facility. But beware: You will encounter scores of Deviants before you reach the entrance. You can choose to avoid them or fight them to gather essentials before the real battle.

Move towards the reddish vertical energy beam to find the entrance of the lab. Inside, there’s a red chamber, which is a Rift Beacon that leads to the Ravenous Hunter. Make sure you’re well-equipped to take on the monster. You can craft, upgrade, and repair weapons or armor at the Storage Room in the lab, which is located on the left of the lab’s entrance.

Once you’re ready, you can activate the Rift Beacon downstairs to start the boss fight.

The weakest Ravenous Hunter is level 10, serving as the introductory boss battle in Once Human. If you’re looking for a greater challenge, you can battle a level 50 and a level 60 version of it for greater rewards.

The Ravenous Hunter is fairly easy to defeat if you are taking on its level 10 version. The stronger versions are naturally more challenging and require you to be equipped with the best guns and armor, but they all follow the same battle pattern.

Tip:

Even for the level 10 battle, make sure you have a rifle equipped and a Crossbow to complement it. I’d also recommend keeping a shotgun in your backpack, as you may have to close the distance to avoid damage at times. Finally, don’t forget to pack in as much ammo as you can and a suitable Deviant to help you out.

The Ravenous Hunter attacks you in three phases, so we’ve included tips for all the scenarios below.

Phase one: Minigun

The Ravenous Hunter brings out their Minigun, which features a high fire rate. You can dodge the bullets by taking cover behind several objects in the arena. Keep firing at them whenever you have the opportunity. The monster’s weapon takes a moment to recharge sometimes, so don’t miss that window to deal damage. They also throw pools of acid sometimes—make sure to avoid those, too.

I could pass this phase pretty easily using my Crossbow and AKM. Make sure you aim for the head whenever you can, as it deals the most damage.

Sub-phase: Eliminate Spawners

Right after the first phase ends, the Ravenous Hunter spawns two Spawners on either side of the platform and takes the center stage. At this time, the boss is immune to all kinds of damage, so your goal is to take down the Spawners and avoid getting shot down by its lasers.

The Spawners keep sending Gnawers to trouble you. To tackle them, shoot those Spawners down. Once you take out both Spawners, the battle enters the second phase.

Phase two: Minigun

The second phase is the same as the first, but you may find the bullet showers from the Minigun a bit more challenging to handle as the boss becomes more enraged. Keep aiming for the head whenever you can and dodge the acid.

Tip:

The Ravenous Hunter drops his Minigun sometimes. You can pick it up and use it against them or the Spawners, but beware: It slows your movement down by a notch and may stop you from getting back into cover in time.

Besides using your weapons, you may find Oil Drums which randomly spawn during the fight. Pick them up and throw them at your enemies whenever you can, as they deal a chunk of damage upon explosion.

Sub-phase: Eliminate Spawners

The Spawners return after the second phase against the Ravenous Hunter and you need to take them down like you did before.

Third phase: Rocket launcher

The Ravenous Hunter returns for the third and final phase of the battle, this time with a Rocket Launcher.

The projectiles of their Rocket Launcher lock onto you, so you have to focus on using cover in this phase. Keep shooting their head whenever you can. If you are feeling adventurous and reckless, I’d suggest taking a shotgun or melee to take the monster on from up close. You’d need to do some dodging, but the projectiles don’t seem to lock onto you as effectively at close range.

I was pleasantly surprised after I was able to beat the boss with a shotgun. Halfway through the boss battle, I had run out of ammo for my AKM and Crossbow and had no option but to use one—and it worked out perfectly.
