Popular League of Legends streamer Michael “Imaqtpie” Santana got married Friday to longtime girlfriend Lisha Wei. The move was a surprise to many fans. The couple had been dating for about eight years when Lisha posted the news on her Twitter feed.
The bride and groom met in 2010 through a dating site before finding out that they both played League of Legends and had mutual online friends. They chatted for over a year before meeting at a PAX event in 2012. And their wedding ceremony was standard Imaqtpie: He wore a black T-shirt, shorts, and sneakers, while Wei donned a white dress. Imaqtpie’s standard streaming apparel is a white T-Shirt, so switching to black counts as dressing up for a man who loves to forge his own path.
Before his career as a streamer, Imaqtpie was a well-known professional League player. He played ADC for North American organization Team Dignitas for three years, leaving in 2014 to become a full-time streamer. At the time, Wei spoke about how the move to streaming made Imaqtpie a happier person.
“I love that people enjoy him now,” she said in an interview on the Team Dignitas website. “It was always super depressing to read comments on how [Dignitas] should kick him, he’s too ugly to be trolling the way he does, that sort of thing. His fanbase lets him keep playing video games as a job, and he wouldn’t be as happy doing something else.”
Since retiring, Imaqtpie has had some dalliances with professional League, including playing on academy team Delta Fox last year with several other streaming personalities. The team, known as the Meme Stream Dream Team, didn’t win much, but was a huge hit with fans and their games were thoroughly entertaining.
