How to start and complete The Last Mage quest in WoW The War Within

He really was the last mage.

The Last Mage is one of the quests you can accept in Hallowfall in World of Warcraft: The War Within. As it’s part of The Last Mage of Hallowfall questline, which is a requirement for the Sojourner of Hallowfall achievement, knowing how to complete this quest is essential.

You can start The Last Mage quest in WoW by speaking to Vaelisia Steelstrike in Mereldar while in Hallowfall, roughly at the coordinates 41 and 51. Once you’ve picked up the quest, you can now begin to complete it.

To complete The Last Mage quest in WoW, you must find Wenren Althal in Beledar’s Bounty in Hallowfall. Beledar’s Bounty is southeast of Mereldar in Hallowfall, and Wenren can be found in his house at the edge of the fields, roughly at the coordinates 49 and 65.

When you complete this quest, which grants two Gold and 34 Silver, you can pick up the next quest, Arcane Trickles.

From here, you simply need to complete this quest along with the quests Arcane Experiments, A Murder Most Foul, and Finding Justice to complete The Last Mage of Hallowfall questline for the Sojourner of Hallowfall achievement. Completing this entire questline will earn you reputation with the Hallowfall Arathi and the Slightly Singed Arathi Tabard cosmetic.

Why can’t I accept The Last Mage quest in WoW The War Within?

If you picked up the quest Arcane Trickles before starting and completing The Last Mage quest, you may have noticed that you can’t start The Last Mage. This is because The Last Mage is essentially a “pre” quest that leads you to Wenren. If you’ve completed the Finding Justice quest, Wenren is dead, meaning you can’t now go and find him. This is why many players were unable to accept this pre-quest.

On Aug. 27, Blizzard released a hotfix where The Last Mage quest marker shouldn’t remain on the map if you’ve completed the questline. However, if it is, you can start and complete The Last Mage quest either by picking it up on an alt or partying up and syncing the quest with someone who hasn’t yet completed it. These fixes have worked well for many players, so it should also work for you.

Due to all the issues I’ve been experiencing in WoW and the issues I’ve been reading about from other players concerning this quest, I didn’t pick it up until a hotfix was dropped just in case I had any issues with it as well. Thankfully, I had no trouble accepting the quest from Vaelisia and completing this entire quest chain.

Hopefully, if you held off on this quest like I did, you should have no trouble starting and completing The Last Mage quest. But if you were having trouble, there are now a few workarounds to fix this issue if the hotfix didn’t.
