Blizzard is experimenting with “minor improvements” for Orisa in Overwatch

The tank has been barely seen in competitive play.

Over the past few months of Overwatch, the game’s meta has settled into a very specific place. The diva meta is extremely popular, featuring fast-moving heroes who can quickly focus and destroy specific targets.

This kind of playstyle leaves a large portion of the game’s heroes in the dust. One of those heroes is Orisa, who was released this past March. Orisa has seen a few buffs since her debut, but she’s still not quite found her rightful role in the game yet.

Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan responded to a thread on the game’s official forums which was asking for Orisa to be buffed. The poster thinks that her damage output is nonexistent and that she is very under-represented.

“We don’t think she needs a mega buff,” said Kaplan. “We are experimenting with some minor improvements though. Apologies for no details—we’re trying a few things right now and not all of them are going to stick. Overall, we feel like she’s not far off but not quite in the ideal spot yet.”

Orisa has no place in the current dive-heavy meta, as evidenced by her shockingly low pick rate. For example, she was played for just 27 minutes during season three of Apex in Korea over the past few months, according to stats site Winston’s Lab. That made her the least-played tank by far. The next-least played tank was Zarya with one hour and 35 minutes.

In the dive meta, tanks like Orisa, Reinhardt, Roadhog, and Zarya really don’t fit in. It’s been dominated by Winston (92.92 percent pick rate in Apex season three) and D.Va (87.19 percent pick rate), with flat-ground, slow-moving tanks being left by the wayside.

With lots of the community feeling that the dive meta is wearing thin, it’s probably that players will be hoping that these potential buffs for Orisa could help shake things up.
