There is no other League of Legends player that has embodied consistency better than Marcus “Dyrus” Hill, Team SoloMid’s top lane extraordinare for over three seasons. As a player just starting out in season 2, Dyrus was the first player I saw stream on Twitch. He didn’t have much to say most of the time but let his raw skill have the last word. As one of the few remaining professional players from the old days of beta, Dyrus continuously shows that time is but a number. After playing this game for half of a decade, he remains the backbone for one of the strongest teams in North America

Dyrus began his professional e-sports career like several of the other professionals back in the old times. He formed a team with other players and entered tournaments to win prize money and keep the dream alive. The renowned roster of Epik Gamer, who competed in the Season 1 World Championships, consisted of Dyrus in the top lane, Dan Dinh (Reginald’s brother) in the jungle, Salce in mid lane, Westrice on AD carry, and Doublelift on support (yes, you read that right).
Out of all five players, only three qualified for the League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) last split. Out of those three, only Dyrus and Doublelift remain in the LCS for the upcoming split. The interesting fact is that out of the entire Epik Gamer roster, only Dyrus still plays his original position, showing resilience and experience unmatched by any other player currently in North America’s LCS.
Dyrus is one of only two professional players to have attended all four League of Legends World Championships as a contender. As metas have changed over the years, Dyrus has remained a solid player and contributes positively in every game played by Team Solomid. He played strong through the days of carry top lane champions, top lane on an island in season 3, the triad of tanks at the beginning of season 4 (Dr. Mundo, Shyvana, Trundle), the 2 vs 1 format, the 3 vs 1 format, buddy jungling, and AP carries in the top lane. He has proven time and time again that there is no strategy he cannot adapt to.

Dyrus may not be a walking highlight reel, but maybe that is a good thing; most walking highlight reels end up quitting after they run out of big plays to make. He rarely stomps his lane opponent, but there is rarely a game in which he comes out of that lane behind. The consistency in his play is unmatched by any player at the professional level. A bad game for Dyrus is missing a few last hits.
Marcus “Dyrus” Hill is a silent giant, both in real life and on the Rift. No matter if Team Solomid stomps their opponents or struggles immensely, you can always look to Dyrus for a solid performance. He never lights the world on fire, unless he cooks, but he always seems to come out on top in the long run. Laning against him is like trying to roll a boulder up a steep incline. No matter how far you push it up, it will always come right back down to crush you. As my favorite player and streamer for several years now, this is how I see Marcus “Dyrus” Hill.
His laugh also heals sick people.
