MSI gives Overwatch another small step into becoming a householdesports title.
The Overwatch 2016 Master Gaming Arena Championship will beheld at the GFinity Arena in London, United Kingdom on Dec. 7-8,2016, MSIannounced Monday.
The prize pool for this event will be $75,000, with the championsquad taking home $40,000. This will be the third largest prizepool in Overwatch’s young history as an esport, and the winner’sshare will tie the ESL Overwatch Atlantic Showdown for the secondlargest single prize in Overwatch esports, per esportsearnings.com.
Only four teams will compete in London and take a share of the$75,000 prize pool, with one team qualifying from each of theAmericas, European, and Asian regions. Each region will holdonline qualifiers, which will have up to 128 teams, between Oct.4-11. The top eight teams will move on to the regional finals,which will be held between Oct. 14-21.
The fourth team in the event will be picked by MSI to compete inthe Grand Finals with the three other teams, although it isunconfirmed how MSI will select the last participant.
All four teams, including the MSI-sponsored team, will havetravel to London and related expenses covered by the tournament’ssponsor.
