Romance is a big part of GreedFall—and let’s be honest: It’s probably a major reason you’re playing the game in the first place. Like other party RPGs, you have options for who you’ll get to snuggle up to in your journey around Teer Fradee.
Here’s everything you need to know about the characters you can romance in GreedFall.
Table of contents
All romanceable characters in GreedFall
There’s a total of four characters in GreedFall who you can build a relationship with. Whether your companions will want to smooch up to you will largely depend on your gender, as well as whether you gain their approval throughout your journey. Each of the four romanceable characters have their own quests, and if you’re wanting to get down and dirty with them, you’ll need to put in the work to solve their problems.
Every character’s personal quest has three separate parts to it, with the different sections becoming available intermittently while you progress through the main story. Once you’ve completed one part, you can speak to your companion again to open up new dialogue options. Selecting the correct dialogue choices will increase your reputation, or approval, with them. The higher the approval, the better your romance chances are.
Both female and male De Sardet get three romance options each, with some overlap. Only Kurt and Aphra are heterosexual in the ARPG; Vasco and SÃora swing both ways. Below are all the options for romance for both female and male De Sardet.
All romance options for female De Sardet
- Kurt
- Vasco
- SÃora
All romance options for male De Sardet
- Aphra
- Vasco
- SÃora
How to romance Kurt
Listen, lady De Sardets: I get it. Kurt is humble, a little flirtatious, and a captain of the Coin Guard. It makes a ton of sense why you’d pick him, especially considering how he’s been by your side long before you ever leave Sérène.
To romance Kurt, you need to have first completed the “Missing in Action” quest. This side quest can be started after you’ve spoken to Constantin at the Governor’s Palace after landing in New Sérène. Kurt will ask you to assist him in hunting down his protégé, a young recruit in the Coin Guard. As you progress through his quest, you’ll get different dialogue options, some of which will increase your relationship with him.
Here’s a full step-by-step guide for romancing Kurt:
- Complete “Missing in Action” in New Sérène.
- Ask Kurt what he felt for Reiner.
- Select the “Tell him that it was so that you could understand him better” response.
- Ask Kurt what he felt for Reiner.
- Complete Kurt’s second personal quest, “Among the Ghosts.”
- Ask Kurt about his relationship with Captain Rolf.
- Choose “Tell him about a childhood memory with Constantin.”
- Ask Kurt about his relationship with Captain Rolf.
- If Kurt survives the attempted Coin Guard coup and your reputation with him is high enough, you’ll gain access to his final quest, “Settling Scores.” Complete it for the final dialogue bits.
- Ask Kurt what his plans for the future are.
- Select “Tell him you hope that you will be a part of it.”
- Ask Kurt what his plans for the future are.
Once you’ve completed Kurt’s personal quests and have selected the correct dialogue options, speak to him again. This will trigger another unique dialogue in which Kurt confesses his feelings for you and will ask to spend a night alone with you. If you accept, head upstairs to your bedroom at one of your accommodation lodges in any of the three main cities, and you’ll be treated to a spicy scene with the captain of the Coin Guard.
How to romance Vasco
Vasco is one of the earliest companions you can romance. Once you land on Teer Fradee, he gets laid off from his job and, without anything better to do, he’ll join you on your escapades. His personal quest will soon become available after you speak to Constantin on the island for the first time.
Here are all the steps you need to follow to snuggle up to Vasco:
- Complete the first leg of Vasco’s personal quest, “A Name for a Family.”
- Ask Vasco if he’s ever regretted becoming a Naut.
- Select the “Ask him if he has any happy memories” dialogue option.
- Ask Vasco if he’s ever regretted becoming a Naut.
- Help Vasco find his brother in his second quest, “Family Reunion.”
- Ask him what he thought of his brother.
- Choose “Tell him that this encounter allowed him to assert himself.”
- Ask him what he thought of his brother.
- Wrap up Vasco’s personal quest by completing “Forever a Naut.”
- Speak to him about whether he intends to set sail again.
- Then select “Tell him that you wish you could sail with him again.”
- Speak to him about whether he intends to set sail again.
After you’ve followed the steps above, speak to Vasco one more time. He’ll recite a romantic—or corny, depending on your tastes—poem before asking to spend some time alone with you. The next time you visit your bedroom in one of the three De Sardet residences in the major cities, you’ll be met with a romance cut scene followed by—you guessed it—another poem.
How to romance SÃora
SÃora plays a major role in GreedFall‘s main story. And given how much influence she can have with other clans on the island, you may find yourself spending quite a bit of time with her on your team, so it’s no surprise if you find yourself catching feelings. Like other romances in the game, you’ll need to pick the correct dialogue options—but because her background is so much different from the others, selecting the options that will impress SÃora isn’t always clearcut.
Here are all the appropriate responses to trigger SÃora’s romance scene.
- Complete SÃora’s first quest, “Find Queen Bladnid.” (Note: If you don’t follow SÃora’s shortcut, she will blame you for the death of her mother and you’ll lose reputation with her.)
- Speak to SÃora how she’s feeling about her mother’s death.
- Choose “Tell her about having to say goodbye to your own mother.”
- Speak to SÃora how she’s feeling about her mother’s death.
- Complete “Promises set in Stone,” her second quest.
- Ask SÃora how she knew the missionaries were lying.
- Select the “Tell her it seems logical, given their culture” response.
- Ask SÃora how she knew the missionaries were lying.
- Wrap up SÃora’s companion quest with “The Queen’s Farewell.”
- Ask what she intendeds to do.
- Say “Tell her that you would understand if she had to help her people.”
- Ask what she intendeds to do.
Once you’ve made your way through all of SÃora’s dialogue, speak to her again to initiate a night alone with her. She’ll express her interest in you, and if you visit your bedroom, a romantic cutscene will then begin. Afterwards, she’ll ask you to be her minundhanem—what we can only assume means romantic partner in her native tongue.
How to romance Aphra
Aphra is one of the final companions in GreedFall to join your squad. She represents the scholars of the Bridge Alliance—but that doesn’t mean she can’t hold her own in combat. From the jump, Aphra’s a spirited character, but if you get to know her better, you’ll learn there’s something more gentle beneath the tough front she puts up. Unfortunately for female De Sardets, though, Aphra likes men and will shoot you down (not literally, this time) if you try to make a move.
As a scholar, Aphra seeks to better understand the native inhabitants of the island and will recruit De Sardet in her quest to do so. Here are all the dialogue options you should choose to gain favor with Aphra.
- Complete the first part of Aphra’s quest, “Islander Knowledge.”
- Ask Aphra what she thought of the moment next to the camp fire.
- Select “Talk to her about the two youths.”
- Ask Aphra what she thought of the moment next to the camp fire.
- Continue to assist Aphra in “Cave of Knowledge.”
- Ask her if she enjoyed the excursion at the cave.
- Choose the “Tell her that you feel as if you have learned a lot” option.
- Ask her if she enjoyed the excursion at the cave.
- Finish the third leg of Aphra’s quest, “The Linking Ritual.”
- Ask Aphra if the ceremony changed the way she sees things.
- Say “Tell her you hope that you will be a part of it.”
- Ask Aphra if the ceremony changed the way she sees things.
Like the other romance options, once you’ve completed the above steps, you’ll be able to move forward with Aphra’s romance. Speak to her once more, and she’ll confess her feelings towards you. If you accept her advances, she’ll ask to meet you in your room, where you’ll be met with a romantic cutscene.
Can you have romance multiple companions in GreedFall?
Although GreedFall will allow you to flirt with multiple companions at once, you won’t be able to romance more than one person if you agree to spend a night with them and choose to continue the relationship. All of the above dialogue options will be available to you, however. If you do have a romance active, your partner won’t get upset if you flirt with another companion.
Each romance option unlocks an achievement if you go all the way with your selected companion. GreedFall players who want to unlock all of the achievements will have to reload save files and have a second playthrough with a De Sardet of the opposite gender. But hey, it’s worth it—right?
