Players might be able to place hidden traps in rocky surfaces in Fortnite: Battle Royale.
A player was eliminated by a damage trap that an opponent placed on the ceiling of a rock structure at Tomato Temple. They shared the video and wrote that they “clearly heard the trap be placed,” but “there was absolutely no sign of a trap in the place that it killed me.”
The video shows the player approaching a room where an opponent he had just taken down was hiding. The player looks at all sides of the room and sees no trap, but a trap activates from the ceiling and eliminates them as soon as they step into the area. Traps are normally fully visible to players.
Other players said the same thing happened to them while they were under ceilings that had a similar rocky texture to the one seen in the video. Some said it happened to them at Tomato Temple as well, while others ran into this issue in season eight at the pirate camp near the volcano.
“The traps in Tomato Temple are kind of invisible because the floor and ceiling are so thick it covers the trap visual,” a player said. Another person said there are places in the ceiling of the castle at Polar Peak where the rocky texture will also cover the trap, and a third person confirmed they like to place traps in Haunted Hills due to this effect.
An Epic employee replied to the thread to collect more information, but they didn’t say if the company recognizes this as a bug or if it’s working on a fix. Even so, players should expect some kind of change to happen in the next Fortnite update since this isn’t a trap’s standard behavior.
